Stalking Victims to Get More Protection - UK Home Office
The Home Office has introduced new measures to better protect stalking victims, including empowering police to disclose the identity of online stalkers through new "Right to Know" statutory guidance. This initiative, inspired by broadcaster Nicola Thorp's experience, aims to provide victims with reassurance and reduce the risk of harm.
Additionally, courts will now be able to impose Stalking Protection Orders directly at conviction or acquittal, restricting offenders and compelling them to address their behavior. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper stated, “We will use every tool available to give more power to victims and take it away from their abusers.”
Further actions include defining stalking in statutory guidance, publishing national standards for perpetrator programs, and improving multi-agency coordination to ensure victim protection. The measures align with the government's mission to reduce violence against women and girls by 50% within a decade.
