Switch to eVisa by Year-End, Home Office Urges
The Home Office has announced that over 3 million visa holders have transitioned to the eVisa system, replacing physical immigration documents with digital proof of status. With most biometric residence permits (BRPs) and biometric residence cards (BRCs) expiring on December 31, 2024, the government urges those yet to switch to do so promptly.
Minister for Migration and Citizenship, Seema Malhotra, emphasized the convenience and security of eVisas, stating: “It is encouraging to see that over 3.1 million people have now taken action… For those yet to switch, a wide range of guidance and support is available.”
To ease the transition, airlines will provisionally accept expiring BRPs and BRCs as travel evidence until March 31, 2025. The government assures ongoing improvements to the process, ensuring a smooth shift to the digital system. Switching is free and does not alter existing rights.
