USCIS Mandates Form I-693 with Form I-485
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced a new filing requirement for certain applicants seeking to adjust their immigration status using Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status). Effective immediately, applicants required to submit Form I-693, Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, must include it with their Form I-485 application, or risk having their application rejected.
USCIS stated the change aims to reduce delays and limit the need for Requests for Evidence (RFEs) during the adjudication process. Form I-693 ensures applicants meet health-related admissibility requirements, such as completing a medical examination and receiving necessary vaccinations.
Applicants must have their Form I-693 completed and signed by a certified civil surgeon. Revised instructions for Form I-485 now make concurrent submission of these two forms mandatory for applicable cases.
For additional details, refer to Vol. 8, Part B, Chapter 3 of the USCIS Policy Manual, which outlines medical examination requirements and identifies when a civil surgeon or panel physician is required.
